Why Prana Pratishtha Is Required

Prana pratishtha is a sacred process that activates a rudraksha’s true energy, transforming it from a simple bead into a powerful tool for solving life’s major challenges.

Mentioned in the Shiva Purana and other ancient texts, this process enhances the wearer’s connection with the bead, and offers great protection, strength, and transformation.

I have personally witnessed its ability to bring clarity, balance, and positive change in life.

Steps Before Rudraksha Prana Pratishtha

Prana pratishtha is a delicate process that requires no hurry but calmness both in body and mind. Below, I have mentioned some of the important things you must note for yourself before performing the process.

  • Before prana pratishtha process, it is important to purify the rudraksha completely. I personally use raw cow milk and soak my rudraksha in the bowl for a few hours.
  • I choose an auspicious day to perform the process. Monday would be ideal as it is related to Lord Shiva. You can even connect with me personally to discuss about shiva vass timings that would be ideal to perform prana pratistha pooja.
  • I choose a quiet space, and light a ghee lamp (diya) & incense stick to purify the environment.
  • At last, I place an idol of Lord Shiva or Shivalingam to invoke divine blessings.

Rudraksha Pran Pratishtha Vidhi/Process

Prana pratishtha is a complex process to understand, but I have tried my best I could to write it down into simpler steps.

1. Sankalp – Declaration of Heart

I start by taking a sankalp for myself, a very important step where I clearly state my intention of performing the pooja. This is a way I make a promise to my rudraksha, and in return ask the rudraksha to support me in life.

Sankalp helps me to commit fully to the practice. I hold water, rice, and flowers in my hand, and declare my purpose. This ensures the ritual is effective and that the blessings come directly to me, without being influenced by outside forces.

2. Swasti Vachan

Next, I recite the Swasti Vachan mantras. Swasti vachan is a way to pray towards the god and seek their blessings for the success of the pooja.

Related to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati, the swasti vachan is very powerful and improves individual well-being and prosperity.

Swasti vachan can be recited as below –

I always tell my followers to recite the mantra very calmly and without any hurry. This helps to build a gradual connection with Lord Shiva and shows your selfless devotion.

3. Arghya

Arghya is a simple offering of water used during pooja. It helps me connect with my Rudraksha and express my devotion to it.

To prepare the arghya jal, I soak chandan (sandalwood) and flowers together in a sacred bowl and use the same jal to offer before the deity (sun) during morning times for stronger energy flow.

4. Diyo Kalash Pooja

I am a great believer in Lord Ganesha and pray for his blessings on me for good health and prosperity in life. I perform Diyo Kalash Pooja with full devotion.

As the name itself says, it requires a Kalash(pot) to perform the pooja. I fill the pot half and immerse a Lord Ganesha idol in the pot and recite my mantra. The mantra I use is written below –

‘Om Gurubhyo Namaha

Om Ganeshaya Namaha

Om Kula Devatabhyo Namaha

Om Ishta Devatabhyo Namaha

Om Mata Pitribhyam Namaha’

5. Shiva Pooja

I treat this pooja as the most important of all. This pooja includes offerings, prayers, chanting of mantras, and jalabhishek to Lord Shiva. Doing this pooja makes me spiritually strong and more connected to my rudraksha.

  • I start the process by lighting an incense stick or a lamp as an offering to Lord Shiva. It helps to purify the environment.
  • Next comes jal abhishek which includes pouring water over Lord Shiva’s idol or Shivalingam to show my respect and devotion. It purifies the connection between me and the Lord Shiva.
  • I provide offerings to Lord Shiva in form of flowers and fruits. This gives me a inner sense of satisfaction.
  • At last, I recite a Shiva mantra with folded hands to pray for my well-being and growth in life.

Note: Keep the Rudraksha close to Shivalingam during the Shiva pooja so that it can absorb good and extra energies to expand its capabilities.

6. Rudraksha Pooja

Next is the Rudrabhishek Pooja, a powerful pooja in the prana pratishtha process, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his rudra form.

To perform the pooja, I offer gangajaal, sugarcane juice and milk, curd, honey, ghee, attar to the Shiva Linga while chanting “Om Namah Shivay” and other rudri mantras. This ritual helps you to achieve your wish or sankalp in life by directing the rudraksha energy towards achieving that sankalp.

Afterward, I sprinkle the water around my home for protection and peace.

7. Shiva Shringar

In this step, I perform Shiva Shringar, where I pray towards the Lord Shiva with nine sacred items that hold deep significance:

  • Kada
  • Rudraksha beads/mala
  • Khappar
  • Damru
  • Trishul
  • Attar
  • Sandalwood paste
  • Bhasma
  • White Flowers

Choose The Right Occasion For Prana Pratishtha

It is always advised to get prana pratishtha pooja performed once you purchase a new rudraksha.

This helps connect your body energy to the energy of the rudraksha bead so the rudraksha can offer maximum benefits and solve major problems in life.

Some of the most auspicious occasions to perform the prana pratishtha pooja are listed below-

  • Mashik Shivratri
  • Mahashivratri
  • Any sacred day during the month of Sawan
  • Any day that aligns with Lord Shiva’s presence (Shiva Vaas).
